An oversize tree trunk was severely cut and slashed into. Its main and central part is split open and gutted, suggesting an opened heart surgery. Forcing the viewer to see various levels and different textures gutted and devastated by large steel claws and braces, forcing and keeping open while locking the stump in place. Now vulnerable and frail….with no apparent hope in sight.
This work speaks about my love for nature and its echo to the political ostrich policy that one often adopts too easily when it is a question of environmental protection. The operation of clear-cutting our New Brunswick forests and thus leaving the ecosystems in shamble, vulnerable even more so to its future and full potential. It is not about halting any logging but rather about its current and alarming mismanagements.
This work also reflects the nature of the old vs the new, about how there is beauty in both. …Perhaps a stark reflection of the 1755 Acadien deportation! …and so many others…
